PLUS: our ~recommended reading list~ is below, with all the links you may need:

  • NEWS: we covered the 2021 cannes film festival which- after a covid-hiatus- took place in person this year. we welcomed the return of celebrity red carpet appearances (the french dispatch, we see you), plus it wouldn’t be a film fest without some kind of mishap (such as: spike lee’s early palm d’or announcement). we also mention tilda swinton accepting this year’s palm dog on behalf of her springer spaniels; don’t believe us? check it out for yourselves.
  • we also mentioned adam driver’s transformation into a centaur (burberry commercial just here), the upcoming return of succession (teaser trailer here), and DUNE (second teaser trailer just here).
  • TV: we covered the recent disney+ marvel show loki, in which tom hiddleston returns as the comic book trickster. there’s lots to unpack in the show (some of it more complicated than we’d like to admit!), but we did like this piece by alison herman which discusses the way it tackles romance- something the MCU does indeed lack.
  • MOVIES: after the flop of rebecca, we were hoping ben wheatley’s covid production in the earth would be a return to form and it was (sort of). if you’ve yet to see it, you can find the trailer here and we’d also suggest listening to the incredible clint mansell score (just here).
  • for our MAIN TOPIC this time, we covered netflix’s three film drop FEAR STREET: 1994, 1978 & 1666. we had a great time watching and discussing the films and their distinct period settings. one of our favourite parts were the soundtracks, and here’s a link to a spotify playlist which brings together all three (sadly no greensleeves or gregorian chanting, but we can’t always have it all, can we?)
